Car Accident
Car accidents can bring life to a halt. Whether it’s a major collision or minor crash, we help you navigate the aftermath, deal with insurance, and fight for maximum financial recovery.

Our office is at 109-12 Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill — a straight run east along Liberty Avenue from Ozone Park, and closer than almost any firm advertising here. Get directions from Ozone Park ,Not a satellite address and not a mail drop. It is where we work.

Most Queens personal injury cases are filed and heard at the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term, at 88-11 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica. If your case goes to litigation rather than settling, that is the building you will be walking into.
Ozone Park sits a short drive east along Liberty Avenue or Atlantic Avenue from there, and our office is on the way. Motion appearances, depositions and compliance conferences all happen locally, so nobody is travelling in from Manhattan for every date on the calendar — and neither are you.
Ozone Park is wrapped in heavy roads. Woodhaven Boulevard runs down its western side as one of the widest streets in Queens that is not a highway, becoming Cross Bay Boulevard at Liberty Avenue. Rockaway Boulevard cuts across it toward the Nassau line. And along the southern edge runs North and South Conduit Avenue, the service road pair flanking the Belt Parkway.
The Conduit is the one to understand. In May 2025 the city’s Department of Transportation announced a redesign of the three-mile stretch between Atlantic Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard, citing more than forty severe injuries and five traffic deaths over five years. Its reason was blunt: the corridor has only fifteen signalised pedestrian crossings across those three miles, speed cameras there record among the highest violation rates in the city, and there are twenty-nine schools within half a mile of it. People cross where there is no crossing because the nearest one is too far away.
Conduit, Rockaway Boulevard, Atlantic Avenue and Linden Boulevard are also designated through truck routes, which means they carry heavy vehicles with no origin or destination in Queens at all, plus freight bound for JFK. That is a different kind of traffic from a residential street, and it does a different kind of damage.
Rockaway Boulevard, Liberty Avenue, Cross Bay Boulevard, Woodhaven Boulevard and Lefferts Boulevard are all Vision Zero priority corridors — the streets the city ranks highest for pedestrians killed and severely injured per mile. That is essentially every major road in the neighbourhood.
The cases we see most often from this part of Queens:
Two things have changed the traffic picture here recently and are worth knowing. Aqueduct Racetrack ran its last card in June 2026 after 132 years and has closed. Resorts World, on Rockaway Boulevard, went the other way: it received a full commercial casino licence in December 2025, opened live dealer tables in April 2026, and began a multi-billion-dollar expansion on the former racetrack land in July 2026. That means years of heavy construction traffic on Rockaway Boulevard and the Conduit, on top of what those roads already carry.
Most of what comes through the door from this neighbourhood falls into a handful of categories, and nearly all of them trace back to the same few roads.
Roughly eight or nine out of every ten buildings in Ozone Park are one-, two- or three-family houses. That matters more than it sounds.
Since 2003, New York City has placed responsibility for most sidewalks on the owner of the building beside them — but not for owner-occupied one-, two- and three-family homes used purely as residences. For those, the City remains responsible, and a claim against the City carries a 90-day notice of claim deadline instead of three years.
In a neighbourhood built almost entirely from that kind of housing, the default assumption on a sidewalk fall should be that the deadline may be 90 days, not three years. The two questions that decide it are whether an owner actually lives there, and whether any part of the building is commercial — a two-family house with a shop on the ground floor is not exempt. Neither question answers itself from the street, which is why these are worth a phone call early rather than late.
The nearest emergency department to Ozone Park is Jamaica Hospital Medical Center on the Van Wyck Expressway, and it is a private not-for-profit hospital, not a city one. That is the most common misconception about hospital claims from this neighbourhood. A claim against Jamaica Hospital follows ordinary rules.
The nearest city-run hospital is NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens on 164th Street in Jamaica. A claim arising from care there does carry the 90-day notice requirement. If you were treated anywhere after your accident, bring the paperwork to your first appointment — those records usually decide what a claim is worth.
Get medical attention the same day, even if you feel fine. A gap between the accident and the first treatment is the first thing an insurer uses against you.
Call 911 and get a police report. Ozone Park is split between the 102nd and 106th Precincts, so if you are asked which one to contact, the answer depends on which side of Liberty Avenue you were on. If the police do not attend, file a report yourself.
Photograph the scene before anything is moved or cleaned up — the vehicles, the road, the hazard, your injuries, and something in the frame for scale. On the Conduit in particular, photograph how far the nearest crossing was from where you were hit. That distance is part of the case.
Take names and numbers from witnesses. They are easy to find in the first hour and almost impossible to find in six months.
Do not give a recorded statement to the other side’s insurer. You are not obliged to, and it is rarely used to help you.
Watch the deadlines. Three years from the date of the accident for most personal injury claims in New York. Ninety days for a notice of claim if the City, the MTA or a public hospital is involved — and on a sidewalk in this neighbourhood, that applies far more often than people expect.
Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term, at 88-11 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, for most personal injury matters. Our office is between you and the courthouse.
Generally three years from the date of the accident in New York, and two and a half years for medical malpractice. If a city agency, the MTA or a public hospital is involved, a notice of claim has to be filed within 90 days. That deadline catches people out constantly, so call early rather than waiting to see how you heal.
Probably, but who you claim against depends on the house. If it is an owner-occupied one-, two- or three-family home used only as a residence, the claim is against the City and the 90-day clock applies. If it is anything else — a rental, a larger building, a house with a business in it — the owner is liable and you have three years. Photograph the building, not just the sidewalk.
Usually yes. Commercial vehicles carry higher insurance limits, there are often company and maintenance records to obtain, and federal rules on driver hours can be relevant. On the Conduit and Rockaway Boulevard, a large share of the heavy traffic is freight passing through, which can mean an out-of-state defendant. Move quickly on evidence.
Nothing. We work on contingency, which means we take a percentage only if we win. If we recover nothing for you, you owe us nothing.
No. We can take the details over the phone or on WhatsApp, and if your injuries make travel difficult we will come to you. But we are close — 109-12 Jamaica Avenue, a straight run along Liberty Avenue.

Michael D. Ribowsky and his accident lawyers handle claims for physical and psychological injuries caused by someone else’s negligence. A great deal turns on timing and on detail — what was photographed, when treatment started, who was spoken to and when. Those are the things that decide what a case is worth, and they are decided in the first days rather than at the end.
We take every case seriously and we do what it takes to recover the most the facts will support, which depends on where and how you were injured and what it has cost you. Ozone Park is one of many neighbourhoods we cover. See our Queens personal injury practice and how we work across the whole borough.
The pain and suffering a person can endure from a car accident can last a lifetime. Severe injuries, employment lost because of paralysis, and other heavy expenses will likely become a way of life for these victims.
Most injury victims in the Big Apple consider getting their costs covered by their auto insurance company but sometimes, the insurance companies fall short of providing you the compensation which you truly deserve. Sometimes, your insurance company will settle with you and provide you with your additional funds. Other times, you will not receive the payout you are looking for because the other side is fighting back to impose their expenses on you. You can believe the insurance company or responsible party will have legal representation.
This is usually the point where you will seek the help of a qualified law firm Ribowsky Law to either help you settle directly with the other party involved in the accident or injury and if they refuse we can head to the courtroom to face them.
So what are you waiting for? Don’t short-change yourself and retain the firm that will provide you with the integrity and the financial results you have been searching for.
If your accident happened further south, closer to the airport, we also handle South Ozone Park injury claims.
